The
contemporary society in its rash pursuit for development and
material progress has given rise to an enormous number of
cases of depression due to various reasons. Taking account
the need of professional service in counseling, Darshan College , Bangalore (Darshan College) has come
up with a course in psychological counseling. Darshan College offers a
full time course and is conducted over nine months (Semester
1 and semester 2), leading to the award of Post Graduate
Diploma In Psychological Counseling.
The course is going to be accredited to British Association
for Counseling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The accreditation
process will be completed by April 2007.
This course is designed to train the students to acquire
knowledge of and practice in advanced counseling skills.
Added to this the students get a lot of room for personal
development, through individual personal counseling and
group therapy embarking a new outlook and integration of
life and experiences of the participant.
Duration Nine months, from July1, 2007 to March 30, 2008.
Eligibility:
Bachelor Degree in any subject and 50% marks in the
entrance examination.
Specific Features
First semester of this course intends to lay foundation for
the theoretical and practical aspects of understanding
psychology and counseling through experiential learning at
laboratory and field. This would include (i) Acquisition of
theoretical knowledge of psychological Processes, Skills and
Techniques of Individual Counseling and Group Process (ii)
Practical application of Individual and Group Counseling
Skills and in addition, Supervised Training cum Personal and
Professional Counseling for developing professional
foundation.
The second semester aims at the growth of the learners into
a professional counselor. Keeping that as the purpose and
focus, the syllabus is designed in such a way that the
learners will be trained on psychological assessment and
counseling in different areas of life situations depending
on the interest of the student. Specialisation will be
offered in two areas of counseling : (1) Educational
Counseling and Career Guidance (2) Marriage and Family
Therapy. The student has to choose any one of the two for
the second semester.
Besides, the student has to complete 101 hours of
contracted, supervised client work. Only when this
requirement fulfilled, the student is eligible for BACP
diploma.
The student has the option to continue the client work even
after the academic year for a period of one month in order
to complete the required 101 sessions.
Fee Structure
The academic fee for 2007 - 2008 is Rs. 24 000/- per
semester which has to be paid through DD drawn in favour of
DARSHAN COLLEGE payable in Bangalore. The last date for the
payment of fee is the day of commencement of the semester.

Admission
The enclosed application form should be submitted to the
Director along with a DD for INR 100/- drawn in favour of
“Darshan College” payable in Bangalore. The Prospectus with
all the other details will be sent to the applicant within a
week.
All candidates should undergo an ‘entrance test’ on a
specified date which will be communicated to them well in
advance. The entrance test can be taken at Darshan College
in person or through “online”. Procedure of the test will be
made known to the candidate. The results of the test will be
announced within a week. The successful candidates should
appear for an interview before 30th June 2007.
