Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is celebrated in India on October 31 to honor Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the "Iron Man of India." Sardar Patel played a crucial role in uniting India by bringing together over 560 princely states after independence.

The Unity Day Celebration at St. Anthony’s College took place with great enthusiasm and a spirit of togetherness on October 31, 2024. The event began with a warm welcome speech, setting a tone of unity and harmony for the day’s proceedings..

The first speaker, Stephia, provided an insightful speech on the importance of Unity Day, emphasizing its origins and the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose efforts were instrumental in uniting the country post-independence. She reminded the gathering of Patel’s vision of a strong and unified nation, inspiring all to carry forward his ideals.

To deepen this understanding, a documentary screening showcased Sardar Patel’s contribution to India's unity. The documentary highlighted his remarkable role in integrating over 560 princely states into one nation, reinforcing his title as the “Iron Man of India.After that Rev. Fr. Joy Wilson Dsouza, and ANO.LT. Deepa .M ma’am motivated and boosted their energy before selection.

Following the screening, Rev. Fr. Robin Victor D'Souza, the Director of St. Anthony’s Institutions, addressed the gathering. In his speech, he praised the unity and diversity of India, urging students to embody these values in their daily lives. He highlighted the importance of standing together against divisive forces and encouraged everyone to work toward building a more inclusive society.

The event then moved to the Oath taking, where NSS volunteers took a pledge to uphold the principles of unity, integrity, and peace. This solemn moment was a powerful reminder of the responsibility each individual holds in contributing to national unity.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks and the National Anthem, leaving the audience inspired to carry forward the spirit of unity in their communities and beyond.
