The department of Computer Application Mrs. Balkhis organised Add on Course Core Oracle DBA. It was conducted for a duration of 30 hours from 23/10/2024 to 06/11/2024 at St. Anthony’s College. The program was inaugurated by the Principal Rev. Fr. Joy D’Souza, St. Anthony’s College. He motivated the students by explaining add on courses and its importance. He also explained it improves the knowledge and helps us to explore new concepts that are used in IT Sectors.
The External Trainer for the program is Mr. Premanjan Biswas, Trainer, Tech Brain Tree. He conducted 30 hours of program by covering the following topics
On Day 1 trainer started with couple of questions like what is Database. Any idea about Database? Indeed it was interactive session. Few students answered the questions. Instructor explained the Introduction Database, Understanding DBMS vs RDBMS, Gone through SQL Standards, Installation of 12c, About SQL*Plus and use of developer tool, Datatypes in Oracle
Topics covered on day 2 are Operators in Oracle, Understanding Schema design and objects, Data Retrieval Techniques, How to use select statement in different ways to retrieve records? Working with Column alias. Instructor explained how data can be stored and retrieved. He continued with the following topics working with Table alias, Data filtering and sorting with in single table, Clauses and its types in oracle. Students came out with doubts such as major difference between Database and Oracle. Instructor clarified the doubts.
On day 3 Where clause, Having clause, From clause, Group by clause, Order by clause, Using clause, Constraint clause, For update clause, Working With DDL Commands, Table creation using CREATE statement, Creating table from another table, Dropping a table using DROP command, Altering the column of a table, modify and rename . Students were excited to take up practical sessions on all the topics covered. They started using SQL Plus.
On day 4 Working With DML Commands, How to copy data from one table to another table?, How to copy the structure alone from a table?, Different types of inserting row to an existing table, Updating any value of with in a record using UPDATE command, Deleting a particular record from a table, Using merge & insert all command, Integrity Constraints and Built In Functions were taught to the students.
The topics covered on day 5 are Data Aggregation, Working with aggregate function Count(), Sum(), Max(), Min(), Avg(), Working with group by clause, Working with having clause, Difference between WHERE and HAVING clause, Importance of JOIN and types, Set Operators
On day 6 the topics covered are sub queries, database transaction and security, design of schema objects. Instructor explained different techniques and security methods to store and retrieve database.
The topics covered on day 7 are Introduction to PL/SQL, datatypes, creating procedures in PL/SQL, explicit cursors with sample programs.
On day 8 creation and using functions, creation and using packages was taught to the Students. On day triggers in PL/SQL, collection in PL/SQL were covered. Trainer also explained the roles and responsibilities of DBA.
On day 10 Exception Handling with examples were covered followed by Lab Assessment was conducted for 15 marks that helps evaluate and encourage students for their betterment

- Creating , modifying and updating of tables using SQL
- Gaining expertise in PL/SQL concepts

The Valedictory program was organised by Mrs. Balkhis, Head of Department of Computer Applications at Room No 7. After the assessment, successful students were given course completion certificate by the faculties. They also motivated students to participate in various add on courses.
