“Competition strengthens character and reveals true potential.”
Quizzes serve as an engaging and effective assessment tool, valuable for both formative and summative evaluation. They provide insights into student learning while promoting active participation. By igniting interest and curiosity, quizzes enhance knowledge retention, improve focus, identify gaps in understanding, build confidence, and reinforce information recall.
On October 21, 2024, the Commerce Department of St. Anthony's College hosted a quiz competition aimed at fostering critical thinking, knowledge retention, and academic engagement among students. The preliminary round, held in the Lecture Hall, saw robust participation from students. This round featured a wide range of topics, including logical reasoning, mathematics, computer knowledge, finance, banking, research aptitude, ICT, and other subject-related areas, using both open- and closed-ended questions. From this round, the top 15 scorers advanced to the final competition.
The final round took place on October 29, 2024, where participants were divided into five creatively themed teams: Mind Benders, Smartinis, Thinktank, Intellect Trio, and Elite Minds, each comprising three members. The quiz rounds were thoughtfully designed, featuring categories such as "Identifying the Product or Company," "Identifying the Company by Tagline," "Brain Teaser," "Finance and Banking," and a "Rapid Fire" segment.
Fr. Joj D'Souza, Principal of St. Anthony's College, inaugurated the event with motivational words, encouraging students to excel. The rules and regulations of the quiz were outlined at the outset to ensure a smooth flow of the competition. Each team displayed enthusiasm and quick thinking, showcasing impressive problem-solving skills, even in the face of challenging questions.
After an exhilarating series of rounds, Thinktank emerged as the top team, followed closely by Mind Benders in second place and Intellect Trio in third. The competition not only enriched the participants but also provided the audience with valuable insights across various subjects.
Rev. Fr. Vijesh Loyed Menezes, Treasurer of the Karnataka Capuchin Province, along with Prof. Mohammed Tazeer, an esteemed judge, announced the results. The event's success was largely attributed to the dedicated efforts of Professors Molly D'Souza and Renuka C, who organized the quiz with precision. Rev. Fr. Robin Victor D'Souza, Director of St. Anthony’s Institution, commended the organizing team and encouraged students to expand their knowledge, particularly in current affairs and specialized academic fields.
The competition concluded with a vote of thanks from Afnan Sabha, a second-year B.Com student. The event was expertly hosted by Prity and Afnan. All students participated actively, demonstrating and exploring their knowledge, and expressed their gratitude to the management and organizing committee for facilitating such a meaningful and enriching experience.
